Happy New Year to all of you! We hope you have a successful and, most importantly, safe year ahead.
As we step into another year, it’s a good time to reflect on the importance of safety in the film and TV industry. The work we do can be demanding, but no project is worth compromising the well-being of cast and crew. Mark Milsome’s legacy reminds us of the critical need to prioritise safety at all times.
Have you made your resolutions yet? If not, consider adding these to your list:
Complete relevant Health & Safety training – Knowledge is the first step to prevention.
Speak up – If something feels unsafe, say something. Your voice can protect yourself and others.
Prioritise rest – Fatigue leads to mistakes. (We’ve posted about this already!)
Know your rights – Understand not just safety regulations, but also your rights around fair working hours, conditions, and treatment. No one should be overworked or exploited.
Do your due diligence when hiring – Ensure that those you work with are competent and responsible.
Only step up when ready – And never pressure others to take on responsibilities beyond their experience.
Always read and follow the risk assessment – It’s there for a reason.
The Mark Milsome Foundation is committed to promoting a culture where safety is second nature, not an afterthought. Let’s work together to make 2024 a year of awareness, responsibility, and positive change in our industry.
